AGM 2021 – Information and documents

Date and general information

Birmingham University UNISON will be holding our annual general meeting (AGM) on Wednesday the 24th March 2-4pm.

Because of the pandemic and in line with national UNISON advice the AGM will be online. We will be sending the joining link, as well as advice on how to join to all members within the next couple of weeks.

All members are encouraged to attend this important meeting, which will:

  • Elect the branch committee for the coming year
  • Receive reports on matters such as finance, negotiations and campaigns from the past year
  • Discuss and vote on important motions affecting the way the branch runs

The AGM is the highest decision making body in the branch and all members working at the University of Birmingham are entitled to two hours off work to attend, as long as essential services in your area are maintained.

As meeting papers are released we will post them below – this page will be used to store all of the necessary information about the meeting.

Nominations and elections

The AGM elects the branch-wide officer positions that (along with local stewards and other representatives) make up the branch committee.

Details of some of the officer positions open for election can be found on UNISON’s national website, but there are other roles available to anyone who wants to be involved in the committee. In the past we have elected some of the following committee roles:

  • Black members’ officer
  • LGBT+ members’ officer
  • Disabled members’ officer
  • Women’s officer
  • Academic liaison

If you would like to stand for any committee role simply drop us an email on unisonbham@contacts.bham.ac.uk to let us know what role you’d like to stand for. Alternatively if you would like to have a conversation about what any of the roles would entail then please speak to your local representative or contact us. If you know of anyone else who would make a great rep then let us know that too and we can contact them to discuss what this would involve.

All nominations need to be received by the  24th February to allow for an online vote in advance of the meeting.
