I started working for the UoB, in Estates, from March 2017. Prior to this, I had worked in FE for 12 years. I have always belonged to a union, as I believe that to have fairness for everyone in any workplace, there is always far more strength if there is a collective effort to secure good working conditions and pay.
I recently decided to become more active in Unison and take on a role as a Health and Safety representative, to ensure safe working practices are adhered to. I have also encouraged my colleagues to join the union, rather than feel silently discontented with particular issues. The greater the membership, the more empowered we will all feel to make a difference. I would be very happy to chat to anyone who is considering becoming a union member.
