Job Opportunity – Organiser (part-time, 11 months fixed term)

Campaigns Hotel and conference park News Outsourcing - Edgbaston Park Hotel

Birmingham University UNISON are excited to announce that we are recruiting for a part-time organiser, focusing specifically on building our strength in the Edgbaston Park Hotel (a University-owned subsidiary company). The role is two days per week and on a fixed-term contract for 11 months. (The reason for the contract term is because it’s being recruited to using a grant from UNISON’s regional pool, which can only be used for temporary positions focusing on specific campaigns).

The role will focus on recruiting and organising members in the Edgbaston Park Hotel – many of whom fall outside of recognition agreements with the Hotel’s parent company, the University of Birmingham. Birmingham University UNISON has been vociferously campaigning for pay and conditions improvements for all staff employed at the hotel, with a final goal of ending outsourcing there and getting staff back in house.

See https://boycotteph.org.uk/for more details.

The ideal applicant for the role will be dedicated and passionate about trade unionism, and able to demonstrate their ability to motivate workers and to organise successful campaigns for improvements in pay, working conditions or other related matters. For more details please see the attached job description and person specification.

Applications should be made using the attached application form and they need to be received, via email to unisonbham@contacts.bham.ac.uk or post to Birmingham University UNISON, Trade Union Office, Aston Webb WLG2, University of Birmingham, Edgbaston, B15 2TT, by 5pm on Monday the 6th April.

For any queries about the role please email Mike Moore at unisonbham@contacts.bham.ac.uk
