Congratulations to our Birmingham UCU friends on reaching an amazing result for both ballots
We are extremely delighted that our sister branch, Birmingham UCU, has reached the threshold for both ballots that took place between the beginning of September and the end of October. The turnout for the pay/ casualisation/ equality/ workloads ballot was 58%, with 77% of members voting yes for strike action. The turnout for the pensions ballot (USS) was 57.92%, with 82% of members voting yes for strike action. The percentages for action short of strike action have been even higher.
This is an extraordinary opportunity for us to join forces and to send a clear message to management that we will continue to fight for all staff at the university – for fair pay, equality, pensions, job security (and living wage accreditation), workloads and more.
